Registry Endpoints

2008-02-05: This issue impacts on the vodesktop 2008.1.beta1 vodesktop (when you are running vodesktop goto the 'about VOExplorer' menu item - and it will identify itself as 'VO Desktop v2007.4.beta1'.

In the beta copy of VODesktop you have, via the preferences page, a choice of registries. Two of these are:

http://galahad.star.le.ac.uk:8080/galahad-registry/services/RegistryQuery
http://galahad.star.le.ac.uk:8080/astrogrid-registry/services/RegistryQuery

Both of these are out of date. The first one actually leads to a registry with old, incorrect data. The second one leads to the current registry on another host.

Please change your preferences to use this endpoint:

http://registry.astrogrid.org/astrogrid-registry/services/RegistryQuery

This is the same information as for the registry configure don port 8080:

http://galahad.star.le.ac.uk:8080/astrogrid-registry/services/RegistryQuery

but is more direct and possibly more reliable.

Please note that these URLs only apply to versions of VODesktop up to and including 2008.1beta1. Later versions need a suffix v1_0 on the URLs as that suffix directs them to search the new, emerging collection of registrations.

VODesktop and Solaris

In principle VODesktop will run on any OS. With Solaris there are some issues if you are running with CDM as the desktop manager. If you use Java Desktop System (JDS) - all works. Please see http://www.astrogrid.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2593 for more on this.
